Number of runs: 4
This week I was in Leeds staying at Weetwood Hall, which is set in the University of Leeds sports grounds, so no excuses for getting out to run. Arrived latish on Wednesday evening, but managed to squeeze in a gentle 4 mile scoot around the park – one lap of the playing fields was about 2.5 miles.
The next morning I was joined by one of my new running buddies, Jenni O, who is in training for the Amsterdam half marathon. Jenni had told me she had got up to 8K, so I thought a lap and a half ~4 mile would be OK. About a mile in, and as we were going along a lovely woodland trail, she disclosed that all her running had been on a treadmill- so running off road was a bit of a shock to the system, let alone the trainers! Jenni completed a strong lap, before heading back to Weetwood for breakfast, whilst I managed 2. Jenni has now discovered the difference between the treadmill and off road running, but she has agreed to come out again. Need to find a nice route when we meet in Grantham next week.
Managed to get home in time for Springwell’s beginners/improvers group on Friday evening. Another run around university pitches -this time Ulster. Warm up and drills was followed by a good 5K set, with Rosie pushing me along.
The legs had barely recovered in time for the Portrush parkrun on Saturday morning. After a slow start, I caught up with hubby, Gary and son Conor, and the three of us kept a good pace up. Conor had missed his PB by 1 second he previous week, so was keen to get a good time. Gary and Conor turned on the after burners with about 800m to go, and I could not stay with them, but Conor was delighted with his new PB of 25:35.
Total mileage this week was around 17 miles but seriously need to start scheduling some time for a longer run.
I am training for the Great North Run for the Boom Foundation. All donations welcome:via Just Giving
